I want to help you feel good about the environment.
First of all, let’s be honest. There is a plastic crisis. When you’re on an idyllic remote island no one even lives on and you can’t move for plastic rubbish. This is Henderson Island.

My second point: wild animals digesting plastic or getting tangled up in it. So we all agree there’s a crisis?
But … I also found it surprisingly easy to find good news about the plastic crisis.
So here’s the good news.
- Beauty product seller Lush uses ocean plastic in its packaging. Actually Lush does a lot more than this, which I wrote about previously
- Coca-Cola is doubling its recycled plastic in the UK
China is sending inspectors to all of its recycling plants to check on pollution:
- 19 US aquariums team up to fight ocean plastic
- Several governments draw up marine plastic debris plans
- The State of Queensland in Australia is planning to ban plastic shopping bags
- Australian firm uses anaerobic digestion to turn plastic into energy
-

- And finally – firm turns ‘fatbergs’ into green energy. Warning: don’t read this if you are squeamish
